Dear NPS Parents/Guardians and Students:Student attendance continues to be a priority for Norfolk Public Schools. We are diligently preparing to engage every student through in-person learning five days a week or through our Virtual Scholars Academy (VSA). As we continue to navigate the fluctuation of positive COVID-19 cases in our area, you may have questions, and we know we must prepare for days our students’ scheduled instructional time may be interrupted. Please review the table below to see how students’ daily attendance will be counted for each scenario.

IN-PERSON LEARNING
INSTRUCTIONAL DISRUPTION DUE TO COVID CONCERNS
VIRTUAL (REMOTE) and ASYNCHRONOUS LEARNING OPTIONS
Scheduled School Hours:
Students physically attend school for any portion of the day = PRESENT
Non-Traditional School Hours (VSA Students follow VSA Schedule Guidelines):
Students attend school for any portion of the day by having meaningful contact via online platform, Student Vue, emailed assignment, uploaded assignment, phone conference, text message pertaining to class/assignment, etc. = PRESENT
Scheduled School Hours:
Students physically attend school for any portion of the day but arrive late (after roll call) = PRESENT AND TARDY

Students do not attend school for any portion of the day by having meaningful contact via online platform, Student Vue, emailed assignment, uploaded assignment, phone conference, text message pertaining to class/assignment, etc. = ABSENT
Scheduled School Hours:
Students do not physically attend school for any portion of the day = ABSENT
Asynchronous
SECONDARY E/0 SCHEDULE (VSA Students follow VSA Schedule Guidelines):
During traditional school hours, students have meaningful contact via online platform, Student Vue, emailed assignment, uploaded assignment, phone conference, text message pertaining to class/assignment, etc. for a class that may or may not be scheduled that day = PRESENT for the day and for that class period the day (or counted as present for class on the day before or day after)
OPTIONAL:
Students have meaningful contact via online platform, Student Vue, emailed assignment, uploaded assignment, phone conference, text message pertaining to class/assignment, etc. after traditional school hours = PRESENT AND TARDY
Students who do not have meaningful contact on asynchronous days = ABSENT
SECONDARY PERIOD ATTENDANCE
(Policy regulation JED-R)
· Students physically attend class for 75% of the class period = PRESENT
· Students physically attend class for 75% of the class period but arrive late (after roll call) = PRESENT AND TARDY
· Students physically attend class for less than 75% of the class period = ABSENT
SECONDARY PERIOD ATTENDANCE

· During the class period, students attend by having meaningful contact via online platform, Student Vue, emailed assignment, uploaded assignment, phone conference, text message pertaining to class/assignment, etc. = PRESENT
· Students attend class by having meaningful contact via online platform, Student Vue, emailed assignment, uploaded assignment, phone conference, text message pertaining to class/assignment, etc. after class on the same school day = PRESENT AND TARDY
