Middle School students in grades 6-8 read the ten current Virginia Reader’s Choice titles starting as early as September. Coaches at each participating school form a team of students to read the books in preparation for the challenge.

A.J. Hyman, a graduate of Granby High School and chef at Sweet Magnolia's (formerly Sweetwater Cuisine) in Virginia Beach, will will work with Norfolk Public Schools (NPS) to identify kids who will participate in a summer camp that will teach them cooking skills, and various aspects of the restaurant and hospitality business.
