Dear Parents, Staff, Students, and Members of the Norfolk Public Schools Community,

 

We are writing to share important news regarding a leadership transition in Norfolk Public Schools. Effective June 11, 2025, Dr. Sharon I. Byrdsong will no longer serve as Superintendent of Schools. We are grateful for her years of service and dedication to our district.

 

As we move forward, we do so with a renewed commitment to excellence, equity, and innovation in public education. This marks not only a leadership change, but a strategic reset—an opportunity to reimagine the future of learning for every child in our care.

 

What This Means for Our Community:

• A Fresh Vision: We are initiating a collaborative process to chart a bold, student-centered path forward—built on listening, shared values, and academic excellence.
• Stable Transition: An experienced interim leadership team is in place to ensure that our schools continue to operate smoothly and successfully during this time.
