Norfolk Public Schools remains committed to ensuring students have access to quality instruction during this time of extended school closures. Consequently, the school division has launched Phase III of its Learning in Place plans for all grade levels. Phase III, which is posted below, extends from April 27 through May 15.

For families who do not have access to the Internet, paper copies of Learning in Place plans will be available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the “grab-and-go meal” distribution sites for students during the weeks of April 27th and May 4th. These sites are open from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. As a reminder, food service sites are: Booker T. Washington HS, P.B. Young ES, Azalea Garden MS, James Monroe ES, Suburban Park ES, Lake Taylor School, Coleman Place ES, Camp Allen ES, Oceanair ES, St. Helena ES, Norview ES, and Southside STEM Academy.

In addition to being available at the 12 "grab-and-go meal" distribution sites, paper packets may be picked up at your child’s school. However, parents/guardians MUST make an appointment via e-mail with their child’s principal prior to reporting to the school. This is necessary because the state’s current restrictions only permit 10 individuals to gather in one space in a school setting at any one time.

All classroom teachers will maintain daily virtual office hours from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. (weekdays only) for students and parents/guardians to reach out to them with questions and/or concerns (via e-mail, Class Dojo, etc.) regarding assigned learning activities.

Why Students' Completion of Learning Plan Activities is Important
Phase III of the Learning in Place plan exposes students to new instructional material. It is important for students to complete these instructional activities and remain engaged in the learning process during the extended closure. These new materials and activities are designed to keep students engaged in the learning process. Students’ completion of these assignments will be considered as part of their assessment for Quarter 4. Please make sure you save your children’s completed work, if it is not submitted on-line, as it will be collected at a later date.

Dear Coleman Place Parents and Guardians,

As you may recall, Norfolk Public Schools is committed to a major water testing initiative in all its schools and facilities on a schedule that NPS originally developed to conclude this summer. The purpose of this effort is to address revised Environmental Protection Agency guidelines regarding the acceptable lead levels. Testing has concluded for our school and I am attaching a letter that details the results. Please note that the letter contains a phone number you can call if you have questions about those results. While the personnel in that office are not on site throughout the work week, they are monitoring their voice mail.
