Open Campus is an alternative school through Norfolk Public Schools that provide high school students who have dropped out or are at-risk of dropping out of school and are the appropriate age for traditional school, with a free alternative path to earning a high school diploma in a non-traditional manner. The school is located at the Norfolk Technical Center at 1330 North Military Highway in Norfolk, Virginia. All coursework is offered online, but must be completed on site.
Students will have two sessions to choose from: 1:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. These sessions run Monday thru Friday. Students are responsible for their own transportation. However, HRT passes will be provided daily to help students get to and from school.
The staff at Open Campus is committed to helping students get back on track for earning a diploma. Students will receive support with the subject matter, participate in SOL remediation, and explore careers opportunities for job readiness. This will support them as they work to meet the requirements for graduation.
In order to attend Open Campus, the last school attended by the students must have been in Norfolk Public Schools. The high school principal has to approve the students applying for enrollment in Open Campus. Maintaining good attendance is crucial for success in this program.
