Open Campus is an alternative school through Norfolk Public Schools that provide high school students who have dropped out or are at-risk of dropping out of school. Students must be the appropriate age for the traditional high school to be eligible to attend Open Campus. Open Campus offers a free alternative path to earning a high school diploma in a non-traditional manner. The school is located at the Norfolk Technical Center at 1330 North Military Highway in Norfolk, Virginia. All courses are offered online, but students must attend school on site in order to do the online classes. Some work may be done off campus, will the approval of the program director.
Students will have two sessions to choose from: 1:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. These sessions run Monday thru Friday. There is some flexibility with the session times. Students are responsible for their own transportation. However, free HRT passes will be provided daily to help students get to and from school.
The staff at Open Campus is committed to helping students get back on track for earning a diploma. Students will receive support with the online coursework, participate in SOL remediation, and explore careers opportunities for job readiness. Every effort will be made to help students meet their requirements for high school graduation.
In order to attend Open Campus, the candidate must be attached to a high school from Norfolk Public Schools. Candidates are not accepted without the approval of the high school principal. Maintaining good attendance is crucial for success in this program.
