Norfolk Public Schools' School Nutrition Looking for a Few Friendly Faces
Norfolk, VA–Now is your chance to serve up healthy options to students at Norfolk Public Schools (NPS)! The Department of School Nutrition for NPS is looking for some friendly faces to work as Cafeteria Monitors, School Nutrition Assistants, and Substitutes.
You can apply, interview, and attend orientation during the department’s job fair on Tuesday, November 5th 2019, from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. at the School Nutrition office located on 974 Bellmore Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23504.
Norfolk Public Schools' department of School Nutrition is one of the state's premier school food service operations. Each day, School Nutrition serves more than 39,000 high-quality, nutritious meals to help improve student learning. By working in our kitchens you can help students form lifelong, healthy food choices. The cafeteria is an extension of the classroom through exploring different cultural recipes and seasonal fruits and vegetables. School Nutrition needs your help bridging connections between the cafeteria and the classroom.
Job fair attendees need to bring two forms of ID. For quicker processing, applicants are encouraged to bring copies of their food handler’s card, TB test results (if done within the last year), and apply online prior to the employment event. In addition, applicants should dress for on-the-spot interviews.

School Nutrition is hiring School Nutrition Assistants, School Nutrition Substitutes, and Cafeteria Monitors. Position duties vary but all support student achievement through serving high-quality, nutritious meals following USDA, local, state, and federal policies, procedures, rules, and guidelines; in a school cafeteria.
Cafeteria Monitors - responsible for monitoring student behavior during meal service. Assists with the cleanliness of the cafeteria; to include recycling and assisting with the flow of meal services during breakfast and lunch. Work hours vary from school to school between 1.5 – 3 hours.
School Nutrition Assistants & Substitutes - responsible for preparing, cooking and serving food items in compliance with Norfolk Public Schools, USDA, local, state and federal policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and guidelines; in a school cafeteria. Most School Nutrition employees start as School Nutrition Substitutes.

School Nutrition will schedule interviews with selected applicants. Prior to any applicant being hired, the applicant must complete Norfolk Public Schools fingerprinting and criminal background check, tuberculosis screen, and obtain a Food Handler's Card from the Norfolk Health Department.
