    School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) is a broad-based community representation including, but not limited to parents, students, health professionals and educators.

    The school health advisory committee shall assist the staff with development of school health policy, the evaluation of the status of school health, promotional health education, special health needs, the school environment, nutrition and overall health services. Recommendations for changes in or additions to health-related School Health Advisory Committee policies and regulations shall be submitted to the School Board through the Superintendent.

    The School Board may request that the school health advisory committee recommend to the School Board procedures relating to children with acute or chronic illnesses or conditions, including, but not limited to, appropriate emergency procedures for any life-threatening conditions and designation of school personnel to implement the appropriate emergency procedures. The procedures relating to children with acute or chronic illnesses or conditions shall be developed with due consideration of the size and staffing of the schools within the jurisdiction.

    The school health advisory committee shall have 20 members appointed by the Superintendent and shall be appointed for a two-year term of service, and may be reappointed for two additional terms.

    The school health advisory committee shall hold meetings at least semi-annually at a time and place to be determined by the board chairperson. Additional meetings may be called by the chairperson.
