Mr. Jaelin N. Mitchell, Student Representative
Jaelin Mitchell is a Norfolk native and the proud son of Nykole Mitchell-Franklin and Pastor Johnathan S. Franklin. As a young child, Jaelin attended Greenhill Farms Christian Academy. He then joined the Young Scholars Program hosted at Ruffner Academy, and then Norview Middle School. Jaelin now attends Booker T. Washington High School (BTW) where he has served as class President, and member/officer of FBLA, DECA, FCCLA, Tri-Music Honor Society, National Honor Society, SCA, and participates in numerous other activities. He also attends the Governor’s School for the Arts where he is a member of the vocal music department. In 2017, Jaelin was the only student to represent Norfolk Public Schools at the Summer Residential Governor’s School hosted at Radford University in Radford, Virginia. Jaelin has served as an office assistant at Norview Middle School for many years. He also assists with the 6thgrade transition program at Norview Middle. At the Salvation Army’s Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, he is the lead piano instructor. He has proven himself many times to be an efficient and effective leader. Jaelin has supervised the Principal’s Advisory council at BTW since 2016. In the 2017-2018 school year, Jaelin was invited to serve on the Superintendent’s Advisory Council, where he served as spokesperson. In 2018, he had the opportunity to be a part of the Virginia Opera’s production of Kurt Weill’s Street Scene. He has received awards from the Optimist Club of America, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Walt Disney Inc., Urban League of Hampton Roads, NAACP, and the cities of Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg, and James City County. Jaelin plans to double major in music education and vocal performance. He aspires to become a great music teacher and believes that the development of children is quintessential to our community’s future. Jaelin believes we should nurture children to be the best they can possibly be every day.
