During Fall 2024 and Spring 2025, Reading/Writing sessions will be offered in mixed format (virtual or in-person) focusing on engaging in personal writing, learning writing techniques modeled after selected books, and writing lesson ideas that can be implemented in teachers' classrooms.
All sessions are free of charge!

Community Partnerships
Friends of the Norfolk Public Libraries
Friends of the Norfolk Public Library is a community partner with Norfolk Public Schools that champions literacy initiatives throughout the City of Norfolk. Each year, Norfolk Public Students participate in their Book Review Contest. This annual contest encourages reading, writing, and critical thinking as well as wider use of the library. It's open to grades 4-12 and includes public, private, and home-schooled students.
Norfolk Rotary Club
One of the Rotary Club's most popular annual programs is Career Day where students from Norfolk Public Schools are given an opportunity to "shadow" a Rotarian and explore a possible career path. Afterwards, the students write reflective essays to summarize their day and the things they have learned. They are treated to a Norfolk Rotary lunch where snippets of the students' papers are read and four are awarded a gift card.
