During the pandemic, NPS contracted the tutoring support of in-person tutors using University Instructors (UI), a division of Public Consulting Group. Due to challenges with recruiting and hiring tutors, NPS is increasing its contract with UI using the funds from the VDOE ALL In VA plan. Norfolk Public Schools has arranged for 120 additional Uls to join the 82 Uls already working full-time in NPS schools to support this intensive tutoring plan. Once the All In VA training videos and materials are available, NPS will ensure that all Uls are trained with those materials. Schools will also have the option to hire retired teachers as tutors. In addition, NPS will continue to provide supplementary tutoring support from licensed NPS staff during afterschool 21st Century Learning Centers at select schools to supplement in-school intensive tutoring. Furthermore, schools will use Safety Net funds to supplement in-school tutoring with after-school supports for students as well.
