Custodial Operations

Listed below are the Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Custodial Operations Department:
- Responsible for cleaning approximately 50 Schools/Facilities on a daily basis, including some Facilities that have after-hours and weekend events.
- The total number of square footage of the district’s Schools/Facilities is approximately a little more than 5,000,000.
- The total number of acres of land of the district’s Schools/Facilities is approximately 800.
- The total number of Custodial Staffing assigned to our Facilities is approximately 271, in addition are: (4 Area Supervisors, 1 Warehouse Tech, 1 Admin. Secretary and 10 Retirees/Subs).
- Responsible for the monitoring and application of pesticides in and around the district’s Schools/Facilities in accordance with VDACS (Virginia Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services).
- The majority of the Building Supervisors and Seniors have acquired their “Pesticide Registered Technician Certification,” which allows them to apply pesticides in and around the facilities.
- The Senior Coordinator and two of the Custodial Area Supervisors possess their “Pesticide Commercial Certification,” which is the status that Pesticide Companies must obtain to operate.
- Utilizes Acme Animal Control and A-1 Exterminator to assist Custodial Operations when necessary.
- Coordinates the repair and installation of the school's Carpeting/VCT.
- Monitors the School Districts Dumpster Service and is the Liaison between the City and the School District (regarding grass cutting, shrubbery and tree trimming/cutting).
- Area Supervisors conduct Monthly Q.A. Inspections of the Schools/Facilities in their respective Zones.
- Monthly training is provided with the “Method of the Month Module” that is sent out to the Building Supervisors to provide training with their Staff (cleaning methods, chemical usage, safety methods, etc.)
- Quarterly training is provided by Custodial Operations with the Building Supervisors and Seniors as it relates to (HR Policies & Procedures, City Stormwater Division, Cavalier Custodial Supply Company, etc.)
- Custodial Operations provides all of the Custodial Equipment, Chemicals, Supplies for the Custodial Staff for each School, in addition to supplying the Custodial Uniforms and Safety Shoes for the Custodial Staff.
- Responsible for the refinishing of all Gyms (wood floors) and Stages (wood floors) throughout the district annually.
- Supervises and participates in the Inclement Weather Process (snow removal, tropical storms, torrential rainstorms, etc).
- Supervises and monitors the Custodial Project Cleaning, during Spring Break, Summer Break, and Winter Break.
