Military Families

  • Norfolk Public Schools' dedicated, caring staff and leadership want all military connected children to move beyond resilience when faced with transitions so they can thrive! The division educates significant populations of military-dependent students, serves families from all Joint Forces, and is the home school division to Naval Station Norfolk; the largest naval complex in the world. Some of the resources currently in place for our military dependents and their families are:

    • A Full time Military Student Transition Consultant ® MSTC® (Operation Thrive)
    • School Liaison Officer (SLO)
    • Support services from our Military Family Life Counselors (MFLC)
    • A full day of Pre-Kindergarten

    Currently, Norfolk Public Schools has been awarded over 3 million dollars in grants from the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) K12 Partnership Program with support from the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC® ). These grants are used to increase the capacity of teachers and administrators to create school cultures that respond to the unique experiences and challenges of students connected to the military.
