What is Norfolk Public Schools doing to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus?
Norfolk Public Schools continues to follow recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and the Virginia Department of Public Health including universal masking in our buildings, social distancing within our classrooms, and provision of personal protective equipment for any staff or student who needs it. Our schools and other buildings are sanitized and disinfected daily.

Should I seek the COVID-19 vaccine for my child(ren?)
YES. COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective at reducing severe illness and death from COVID-19. CDC monitors for any health problems that happen after vaccination. Getting a COVID-19 vaccine is one of the best ways to slow the spread of COVID-19. Vaccines are available for students aged 5 and older. In addition to increasing vaccination rates for employees and students, schools are still promoting other mitigation strategies including the use of masks, improving ventilation, social distancing, and hand washing.
The known and potential benefits of COVID-19 vaccination outweigh the known and potential risks.

Why is NPS requiring staff to be vaccinated?
In its unanimous vote to require COVID-19 vaccination or weekly test results for all staff, the School Board cited the continuing pandemic and surging infections from multiple variations of the virus, including the fast-spreading and highly contagious Delta variant.
