    Thank you for your interest in completing the 2023-2024 3rd grade application for Academy for Discovery at Lakewood (ADL). ADL is a city-wide 3rd through 8th grade school. Our program challenges students through rigorous, problem-based learning coursework, teaching our students skills to be successful in learning and life. Parents/guardians and students should have a complete understanding of academic expectations before applying. Listed below is additional information about our programs so that you can make the best decision on whether or not to apply.

    PBL will be embedded in instruction for all grades, 3rd through 5th.  Project Based Learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge. Please review a video about PBL here: http://www.edutopia.org/video/five-keys-rigorous-project-based-learning.

    The teaching and learning that takes place in grades 3rd through fifth, helps to prepare students for ADL’s IB MYP Specialty Program in grades six through eight.     Those wishing to attend ADL will need to have an understanding that the classroom learning environment will include more inquiry-based instruction, collaborative based activities, infusion of real-world problem solving, and high levels of student engagement.

    After you have reviewed all of this information, and your 2nd grader is excited about being part of ADL and can commit to our mission and philosophy, then please complete the components of the application. The application must be completed and returned no later than, Monday, January 31, 2023. The application for ADL 2023-2024 Grade 3 can be found here. An information night will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 6:00pm at Academy for Discovery at Lakewood for parents of 2nd graders.
