Welcome to Booker T. Washington High School NJROTC Unit. The school is steeped in tradition, whose history dates back to 1972. The cadets are indeed a member of a special unit. The Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) is more than just an academic elective in high school. It’s a student enrichment program focused on the development of informed, responsible & patriotic citizens, while growing confident, student leaders.
During the four years, students will learn: maritime history, nautical science, military customs, physical fitness, leadership and teamwork. As they learn, promotion is possible through the cadet chain of command. Cadets who exhibit solid leadership could eventually be appointed as the Commanding Officer of the unit.
The NJROTC program will help to develop & strengthen:
Character National pride National security
Independence Self-respect Teamwork
Professionalism Self-disciple Decision making
NJROTC is a mentorship program where cadets will be mentored by 2 retired Navy teachers & by other cadets. Community involvement & professional development established by the NJROTC program is appealing to colleges & future employers. Students in NJROTC programs are more likely to stay out of trouble & graduate high school than those not enrolled. There are many college scholarships available to cadets & the instructors will guide students in finding them.
