Course Descriptions
Leadership and Conflict
Leadership and Conflict classes at both the 6th and 7th grade levels teach students to find positive strategies to negotiate social and interpersonal issues that arise as a normal part of preadolescent and adolescent development. Instructors provide guidance, interactive discussions and scenarios that ask students to reframe situations that could lead to negative consequences so that all parties resolve issues peacefully. In addition, the classes discuss issues that have taken the spotlight at a local, state and national level among students in their age cohort (ex: bullying, self-esteem, cyberbullying, etc.). Students learn appropriate responses to bullying behavior by identifying the components of bullying and the dynamics of positive and negative social systems. Lessons also include video clips from real-life situations, essays, writing prompts, and role-playing scenarios to help create a positive, caring academic environment.
