My name is Felecia Oliver, and I have been a member of the Ruffner Academy Middle School faculty for 15 years. I am the School Counseling Director and have served in this position for eight years. I am currently on the Instructional Leadership Team. Prior to this, I was a School Counselor for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. I also taught third grade at Sewells Point Elementary School for eight years. I earned my Graduate Degree in Urban Education/School Counseling Pre K-12 from Norfolk State University in 2004. I earned my Teacher’s Certification in 1997 and my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 1984. I was selected Exemplary Professional School Counselor of the Year in 2011, Teacher of the Year at Ruffner Academy in 2010, School Counselor of the Quarter in 2006, and a School Bell Award Recipient in 2005. I am a current member of the American School Counselor Association, the Virginia School Counselor Association, and the Norfolk Federation of Teachers.
I consider my role as a school Counselor, supporting students, families and my school a joy and privilege. I enjoy middle school students. I feel that this is such an important time of their development, and I can have a positive impact on them. These are challenging years for them, and I strive to make the “ride” as smooth as possible.
