Teacher-Family & Consumer Sciences

"My name is Ms. Stokes and I am the Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher here at Azalea Gardens Middle School. I was born and raised in Portsmouth, Virginia. I recently graduated from Virginia Tech in May with a B.S. in Family & Consumer Science, a B.S. in Human Development, and a minor in Psychology. This 2020-2021 school year will be my first-year teaching and I am excited to jump right in. I enjoy being adventurous and trying new activities. Some of my hobbies include interior design, video editing, planning events, and soccer; just to name a few. I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., as I enjoy being able to serve the community. I am the advisor for Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). My office hours are Monday through Friday from 1:15 pm to 2:40 pm.   

I was graduating from college when COVID-19 hit tremendously in March. I had to adjust to virtual learning in a blink of an eye for multiple classes. I want every student to remember that you are not alone, we are all in this together, and we are all learning to navigate together. Do not be afraid to speak up or ask questions when you need assistance. If you need any tips or strategies for adapting to this new environment, please feel free to email me. The new skills that you are learning at this time will be beneficial to you for a lifetime, so let’s use this time to master them early! This is going to be a great school year!"
