« …Je ne regretterai jamais ces années à l’EFAN »
L’Ecole Franco-Américaine de Norfolk (EFAN) est une véritable opportunité pour les étudiants français désirant continuer leur cycle d’études françaises et passer leur baccalauréat. Pour les étudiants dans le monde une des solutions consiste à recourir au Centre National d’Enseignement à Distance (CNED) qui procure toutes les ressources nécessaires mais cela requiert beaucoup d’autonomie et nécessite des recherches additionnelles. C’est à ce moment que l’EFAN prend sa mesure. Les enseignants apportent leur support dans quatre compétences, expliquant et aidant à la compréhension des cours et à l’exécution des exercices du CNED.J’ai obtenu mon baccalauréat avec la meilleure mention grâce à beaucoup de travail et grâce aux enseignants qui ont su faciliter mon travail. Sans leur aide dans ces quatre matières je n’y serais pas parvenu, les cours scientifiques nécessitant beaucoup de recherches parallèles pour être véritablement compris. J’ai pu éviter d’avoir à faire ces recherches en ayant des professeurs qui pouvaient répondre à mes questions et m’expliquer les concepts des cours.
De plus, un autre avantage de l’EFAN est qu’il est aussi possible d’étudier dans un lycée américain, de s’enrichir culturellement et d’obtenir le diplôme américain (avec, le jour de la remise des diplômes, toge et mortier, oui, comme dans les films!)
Je suis maintenant inscrit dans une université américaine dans laquelle j’ai pu obtenir une bourse grâce à la mention de l’obtention de mon « High School Diploma » et du Baccalauréat. Tout ceci a requis beaucoup de temps et de travail mais …je ne regretterai jamais ces années à l’EFAN.

«…I’ll never regret having been a part of the FASN»
The FASN, or EFAN in French, is a real opportunity for French students wishing to continue their French curriculum and get their French baccalaureate. For people around the world, one of the solutions is to study with the CNED, which provides all the tools needed to study, but requires a lot of autonomy and external research to understand the courses, which is where the FASN has a role. The teachers support the students in four different courses, explaining and helping them through the courses and exercises of the CNED.
I obtained a scientific baccalaureate with the highest distinction due to hard work, but also thanks to my teachers who simplified my work in their courses. Without this help in the four classes I couldn’t have done this, the scientific classes really need external research to be truly understood and I avoided this by having a teacher who could answer and explain all the principles in the courses.
Moreover, another advantage of the FASN is that you also have the possibility to have classes in an American High School. You can then learn a lot about the American culture and finally graduate (with the graduation cap and gown, yes, just like in the movies!). I am now in college in the United States where I got a scholarship because of my resume which combines both the High School Diploma and the French Baccalaureate. It took a lot of time and work, but I’ll never regret having been a part of the FASN

« …Le meilleur compromis…»
L’année de notre arrivée aux USA, notre aînée a suivi son CP français au travers de cours par correspondance en complément de l’école américaine.J’étais loin de me douter de la difficulté d’une telle tâche. Assurer sur la durée les cours et examens à la maison pose pas mal de contraintes. Il faut par ailleurs «gérer » la fatigue engendrée par le double cursus (américain et français). Enfin, la combinaison des fonctions de professeur et de parent a parfois brouillé certaines lignes et généré des tensions importantes entre parents et enfants.
La deuxième année, nous avons fait le choix d’intégrer l’EFAN. Grâce à l’école et à ses professeurs qualifiés, notre fille a retrouvé entière confiance dans son travail et a fait d’importants progrès dans ses apprentissages. Ceci a permis de retrouver calme et sérénité dans notre foyer.
Aujourd’hui, dans notre troisième année de séjour, nos deux aînées sont en CE2 et CP à l’EFAN. C’est avec beaucoup de confiance que nous pensons à notre retour et à leur réintégration dans le système scolaire français classique.
L’EFAN est pour nous le meilleur compromis permettant une poursuite des apprentissages en français tout en immergeant nos enfants dans le système éducatif américain.

« …The best compromise…»
Over our first year in the U.S, our oldest child followed the French 1st grade through correspondence courses to supplement the American school.
I was far from suspecting the difficulty of such a task. Home schooling and assessing are lots of constraints. It is also necessary to “manage” the tiredness caused by a double curriculum (American and French). As a result, the combination of the functions of teacher and parent sometimes blurs the lines and generates significant tensions between parents and children.
The second year we have chosen to apply to FASN. Thanks to the school and to its qualified teachers, our daughter has regained full confidence in her work and has made significant progress in her learning. This helped to regain calm and serenity at home.
Today, in our third year of residence, our children attend first and second grades at the EFAN. It is with great confidence that we think about our return and reintegration in the classical French school system.
For us FASN is the best compromise for a continuation of learning in French while our children are fully immersed in the American education system.
