Dear Apprentice and Sponsor:
Welcome to the start of the 2022-2023 school year at the Norfolk Technical Center with our (ARI) Apprenticeship Related Instructional program. The 2020-2021 school year was an extremely successful year, even with our transitioning to a remote learning platform to conclude the school year. We are excited about the upcoming school year and look forward to providing you with a structured apprenticeship related instructional program. Recently, contacting textbook publishers, all announced that there may be some price increases for the majority of textbooks. We work as closely as possible with our textbook publishers to keep the cost down for our sponsors and apprentices.
Apprentices preparing for the new instructional year should keep in mind the following:
- Credit-By-Exam Challenge Tests (optional) are scheduled for August 3rd, 10th, 17th. If a new apprentice receives formal training related to a trade, he/she may want to attempt to receive Credit-By-Exam instead of taking the class. See page 13 for complete details. Feel free to post the Credit-By-Exam page on your company's bulletin board. Remember, sponsors may grant credit for “work experience”. However, this is not Apprenticeship Related Instruction (ARI). Do not place apprentices in advanced classes unless they have completed previous years of ARI at N.T.C. or have satisfactorily completed the Credit-By-Exam Challenge Test.
- Most classes meet twice a week on either a Monday/Wednesday or a Tuesday/Thursday schedule. Please see the class schedule for current nights and room locations. In case of inclement weather or other school cancellations, all nights missed will be rescheduled.
- Enrollment for Apprenticeship Related Instruction MUST be received by August 31, 2022; all late registrations will incur a fee of $50.00.
The Apprenticeship Related Instruction Office, the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry, the instructors, and the apprenticeship advisory committee look forward to a great year for apprenticeship. Please join us in making this our most successful school year.
