Selection into Academy for Discovery at Lakewood is completed through a lottery of qualified applicants. Students must meet the following qualifications to be included in the lottery selection process: 

• Student must have a positive attendance history.
• Student must have a positive disciplinary history.
• Be a student in good academic standing.
• Student must reside in the city of Norfolk or present proof of residency prior to the first day of school, August 18, 2025.

ADL is able to pull student data for all NPS students. Students coming from outside the district, private or home school should upload a final report card with their application. 

There are 8 available seats for the 2025-2026 school year for Grade 3. 

The applications will open on Monday, June 23, 2025, and close at midnight on Monday, June 30, 2025. Notification of selection or wait list will be emailed on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. The wait list will expire on the 10th day of school. ADL will contact the parent directly if a spot becomes available. Please do not call or email requesting information regarding the wait list.

Students selected through the lottery will be invited to attend the optional 3rd Grade Transition program on July 15, 2025. Details will be included in the acceptance letter.
