• Effective January 1, 2025, Norfolk Public Schools is a cell phone free zone.

Following School Board Policy, all students will be required to:

    • Turn off cell phones and communication devices before entering the school building.
    • Store all electronic devices in book bags or back packs.

Devices may not be stored in pockets, purses, or in student’s clothing.

Entering the Building & Metal Detector Screening

All electronic devices must be turned off and stored in a book bag or backpack before entering the building as students will not be allowed to walk through the weapon detection system with cell phones, ear buds, or beats out in the open. Students will still be responsible for handing their other metal devices such as Chromebooks/iPads/Chromebooks, umbrellas, metal water bottles, eyeglass cases, and locks, to security or the weapon detection system staff member as they pass through. No electronic device can be stored in a student’s pocket. Please be patient as we implement this process as it may create delays for the first few days as students get acclimated to the new procedures.

    Consequences for Policy Violations

    • 1st Offense: Verbal warning and parent/guardian communication.
    • 2nd Offense: Written warning and parent/guardian communication.
    • 3rd Offense: Confiscation of the device; returned to the student at the end of the school day with parent/guardian communication.
    • 4th and Subsequent Offenses: Confiscation of the device; returned only to a parent/guardian, with additional disciplinary actions as necessary.

Repeated infractions may lead to further disciplinary action following the Standards of Student Conduct. Moreover, any disciplinary infraction that a student commits arising from school administrators upholding the policy shall result in disciplinary consequences as determined by the Standards of Student Conduct and the Norfolk Public School’s Level System
