LCSE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
To apply to the LCSE program at Norview High School, students must:
- be a rising 9th grader living in Norfolk, VA.
- successfully complete or be currently enrolled in Geometry*, 1 year of a Foreign Language, and either Biology or Earth Science (honors level is preferred) for high school credit. *Geometry is preferred, Alg. 1 is the minimum math required.
- earned a 3.0+ GPA in Math and Science, and an overall GPA of 2.75+.
- have a clean Discipline History.
- obtain four positive teacher recommendations.
- submit their completed application to their middle school counselor by January 31, 2022.
- successfully pass the LCSE Entrance Exam scheduled Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 9 - 11:45 AM at NHS.
- submit a well written essay (this will be completed onsite, during the LCSE exam in March)
In addition, students should:
- have a strong interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Math.
- be interested in developing and applying leadership skills.
- be interested in becoming highly prepared for college.
- expect to be held to a higher standard.
- like to be challenged.
Other pertinent information:
- Select students are required to pass an entrance test in Math (Algebra I) and Science (Reading Comprehension/Application). Students also complete a required essay during this time. NOTE: Not all students who apply will be invited to test. There is a minimum passing test score requirement prior to final selection.
- LCSE selects up to 50 students in the order of highest test and essay scores plus their initial application score.
- Incoming LCSE students must meet with the LCSE Program Manager, along with a parent, to review program expectations and scheduling (April/May).
- Students attend a four-day, free LCSE Summer Orientation Camp at NHS in mid-August.
