Dr. Patrick Doyle, Principal

Mr. Patrick M. Doyle is an innovative, dynamic, and proven educator with over 15 years of successful experience in a variety of education roles. He has worked as an administrator, adjunct professor, teacher specialist, and teacher. He is highly skilled in developing and maintaining a broad vision, cultivating relationships, and communicating effectively to create a collaborative culture and improve student achievement.

Mr. Doyle has sought to continuously advance his career by seeking opportunities to learn and grow as an educator and administrator in a variety of settings. He began his tenure in education in 2006 as a Physical Education teacher in rural North Carolina after receiving his B.S. in Physical Education from Canisius College in New York. While teaching and coaching multiple sports teams including basketball, soccer, and softball, Mr. Doyle worked to receive his Master of Education in Physical Education with a minor in Special Education. He was welcomed into Norfolk Public Schools in 2009 as a teacher specialist working in the Special Education department. During this time, Mr. Doyle obtained his Ed. S. in Educational Leadership. Additionally, Mr. Doyle began teaching, as an adjunct professor, for Old Dominion University. In 2014, the opportunity to become an assistant principal and move his career toward leadership and administration relocated Mr. Doyle to Tappahannock, Virginia. It was there that he discovered his skill and talent as an education leader. In short time, he was promoted to the high school as Principal. He also began to pursue his Ph. D. in Educational Leadership and ventured into the arena of academic writing. Mr. Doyle co-authored an article that was accepted and published December 2017 in the National Association of Secondary School Principals Bulletin: Sage Journals, titled How Variations in State Policies and Practices Impact Student Outcomes: What Principals and Professors Need to Know.

The opportunity to return to NPS as an administrator came in 2017. Mr. Doyle proudly accepted the position as Principal of Norview Middle School for the 2017-2018 school year. With the extraordinary efforts of both staff and students, Mr. Doyle was able to achieve and maintain accredited status for two consecutive years before being reassigned to Blair Middle School. Mr. Doyle eagerly accepted his new positon as Principal of Blair Middle School with the goal of leading yet another NPS school to full state accreditation.

Mr. Doyle has successfully improved multiple schools by creating and supporting a culture that is conducive to continually improving student achievement by empowering others, building group capacity, and maintaining a climate that promotes teamwork, cooperation, and communication. He holds himself and others to high expectations and leads with the belief that everyone can and will learn and grow. Mr. Doyle prides himself on being culturally responsive, which has created many opportunities for him to build ongoing and meaningful relationships among colleagues, staff, families, and community members. Mr. Doyle understands that the success of his school does not lie in his hands alone, but rather in the group effort of all stakeholders working unitedly to educate young minds in order for them to reach their full potential and be successful in whatever path they choose.

Outside of his career, Mr. Doyle is happily married and the proud father of three incredible children. He is family focused and passionately active in the lives of his children and wife. They are equally as supportive of him and are often seen, by his side, at school events.

Mr. Doyle looks forward to many more years of successful service as an educational leader within NPS. He is committed to his position as Principal of Blair Middle School and will use his knowledge, talent, and skill to lead BMS to full accreditation and continued improvement of student achievement.
