• Open Campus

Open Campus is an alternative school through Norfolk Public Schools for high school students who have dropped out or are at-risk of dropping out of school. Students must be the appropriate age for the traditional high school in order to be eligible to attend Open Campus.  Open Campus offers a free alternative path to earning a high school diploma in a non-traditional manner. The school is located at the Norfolk Technical Center at 1330 North Military Highway in Norfolk, Virginia.  In order to attend Open Campus, the candidate must be attached to a high school in Norfolk Public Schools and must have clearance for attendance from the home school principal. The admission process starts at the home school.

The school hours for students are from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.  We offer flexibility with the schedule by allowing the students to attend three hours of in-person learning two days per week.  They may work from home the remaining days of the week. Edmentum Courseware is the online platform that is used for instruction. The courses are self-paced and will be completed once the students finish all of the work assigned in each module.  Students have the option of taking up to three courses at a time.  An additional course will be assigned to each student as a class is completed.

The staff at Open Campus is committed to helping students get back to earn a high school diploma.  Students will receive support with the content matter, participate in SOL remediation, develop skills for job readiness.  Individualized learning plans and mini-lessons  are created to support each student.  The diploma will be awarded through the home school upon meeting the graduation requirements.
