Lake Taylor High School's Symphonic Band Strikes a Chord for IKEA's Grand Opening

IKEA is a major local buzz word this month.  The 331,000 square feet furniture and home essentials store opened at 9 a.m. on April 10th near the Norfolk Premium Outlets. Thousands waited in line as early as 5 a.m. to be among the firsts in the store.  Our own Lake Taylor High School’s Symphonic Band was a part of this very special day.  As the American flag was raised during the opening ceremony, the band played The Star Spangled Banner.
Mayor Ken Alexander, who is a Lake Taylor High School graduate, attended as well as other city dignitaries and officials.  Lake Taylor’s Symphonic band is directed by Ms. Paige Driver. After the ceremony, IKEA’s doors opened and the shopping began. Over 15,000 people are expected to visit the store on opening day from near and far.
