Camp Allen Elementary School Dedication: A Warm and Friendly Dragon Event

The partners who helped make the construction of Camp Allen Elementary School a reality gathered to celebrate with a dedication ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 5. Camp Allen is unique because almost $23 million of its $28.7 million cost came from a Department of Defense Grant. The City of Norfolk paid the balance of that cost! Principal Deena Copeland presided over a program that included remarks from Mayor Kenneth Alexander, Capt. Jonathan Kline, School Board Chair Dr. Noelle Gabriel, Acting Superintendent Sharon Byrdsong, and Justin Ballard of S.B.Ballard Construction Company. Highlights of the day were student introductions of the speakers, musical performances from Camp Allen Dragons and the unveiling of the school's beautiful "Dragon Family" mosaic mural.
