Superintendent Participates On Panel For SOQ Recommendations
Dr. Melinda Boone participated in the Virginia Board of Education’s annual retreat work session and regular business meetings in April in Henrico County.
Dr. Boone’s panel gave feedback on the Standards of Quality (SOQ) recommendations from the Board of Education. As one of only four superintendents requested to share with the Board, Dr. Boone addressed the opportunities and challenges in the Norfolk School District. The SOQ was designed by the state to make sure all of Virginia’s schools receives a baseline level of support necessary to meet the state’s educational standards.
Other presentations at the work session included case studies from states with teacher mentoring/ coaching programs, teacher leader programs and tiered teacher licensure. These programs highlighted research to help find ways to attract and retain effective teachers to ensure every classroom has a qualified teacher.
