Swearing-In Ceremony of Newly Elected NPS School Member, Jodi M. Slaughter
On Wednesday, December 3, 2025, newly elected Norfolk Public Schools (NPS) School Board Member, Jodi M. Slaughter was sworn in to represent Ward 3. Her ceremony took place at 3:30 p.m., which was prior to the start of her first NPS school board working session.
Interim Superintendent James Pohl, Ph.D., opened the ceremony with remarks about Slaughter’s commitment to serve. “Becoming a school board member is both a privilege and one with profound responsibility. It means stepping into a role where every decision touches the lives of children and shaped the future of an entire community,” said Dr. Pohl.
NPS School Board Chair, Sarah E. DiCalogero invited Slaughter to the podium where presented Slaughter with a certificate.
Next, City of Norfolk’s Clerk of Circuit Court, George E. Schaefer III, read the oath to Slaughter.
Newly sworn in NPS school board member Slaughter gave remarks. “Board members, my friends and supporter supporters of Norfolk Public Schools’ words cannot convey how honored I am to step into the role of an advocate for this city’s scholars.” She thanked her family, friends and people from the community who elected her. “I believe in doing whatever it takes to develop the profound potential of the scholars who walk through our school doors every day,” said Slaughter.
