Norfolk Public Schools, City of Norfolk and Community Partners Unite for Back-to-School Readiness

Norfolk, VA – As families prepare for the 2026-2027 school year, Norfolk Public Schools, the City of Norfolk, and community partners are once again coming together to help students start the school year prepared, connected, and ready for success.

The Fourth Annual Unity in the Community Back-to-School Celebration will take place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Norfolk Scope. This free event brings together educational, healthcare, government, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to provide students and families with the resources, services, and support in one location to ensure an engaging start to the new school year. 

All Norfolk Public School families attending the event will have access to the following:

• Free backpacks and school supplies (while supplies last)
• Preschool and kindergarten registration information 
• Health screenings
• Immunizations (registration required)
• Community resources, family activities, giveaways, raffles, and more.

"We look forward to welcoming families for a day of celebration, connection, and support as we celebrate the start of another exciting school year."

This free event is open only to Norfolk Public Schools' students and their families. The first day of school at Norfolk Public Schools is on Monday, August 24, 2026.
