Norfolk Public Schools' dedicated, caring staff and leadership want all military connected children to move beyond resilience when faced with transitions so they can thrive! The division educates significant populations of military-dependent students, serves families from all Joint Forces, and is the home school division to Naval Station Norfolk; the largest naval complex in the world.

Purple Star Designation Schools

To date, the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on the Educational Opportunity for Military Children has selected 15 Norfolk schools in the division to receive the Virginia Purple Star Designation.
The Virginia Purple Star Designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that meet a rigorous qualification criteria.
Norfolk Public Schools is proud of the distinction and what it states about each of the schools’ commitment to our military community, especially our military-connected students.
Purple Star Designation schools receive a resolution of recognition, an award coin, and the opportunity to proudly display the Purple Star logo for three school years.

*Willoughby ECC is the first Early Childhood Learning Center in the state of Virginia to receive the Purple Star Designation
**Norview and Granby High Schools are the first Norfolk Public Schools’ high schools to receive the Purple Star Designation
