HRT Student Freedom Pass
The pass provides free access to HRT buses, The Tide, and the Elizabeth River Ferry.
The passes are available to all students. You can access the online application form and complete it. For more information, visit the HRT Student Freedom Pass site.
The Student Freedom Pass provides students with a photo ID as well as unlimited free rides on Hampton Roads Transit’s bus, ferry, and light rail services. Service is available in the cities of Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach. -

Congratulations are in order for Azaria Cherry! She is a 2022 STEAM-H essay contest winner awarded by the Virginia Council on Women, an advisory council in the Executive branch of state government. The purpose of the Council is to identify ways in which women can reach their full potential and make their full contribution to society and the Commonwealth. Each year, the Virginia Council on Women hosts an Annual STEAM-H Essay Contest. The Contest awards high school senior girls pursuing STEAM majors and careers with scholarships to aid with their tuition at institutions of higher education. On April 29, Azaria attended the Scholarship Recipients Reception with Governor Youngkin. Congratulations Azaria! Your Maury family is so proud of you!
Congratulations to Naila Rivera Morales! She won the Hampton Roads Youth Volunteer of the Year Award!

SENIORS CLASS OF 2022
Senior Prom will be on May 13, 7-11 at Half Moone Cruise & Celebration Center. Tickets are on sale through April 29, 2022.
If Seniors have not purchased their cap & gowns, they need to do so ASAP:
https://www.jostens.com/apps/store/customer/1119641/Maury-High-School/Jostens will be at Maury on May 3 during all lunches to distribute the Graduation Announcements and sell Honors Tassels. The tassels will be $15 (cash only).
Graduation Rehearsal is Friday June 10 @ 10 am. Senior Picnic will follow (more info TBA regarding the picnic)
Graduation will be Monday June 13 @4 at the Chartway Arena. Each senior will receive 10 tickets for their families and guests to view their big day. These will be distributed at Rehearsal.

The Virtual Scholars Academy (VSA) is now accepting applications for the 2022-2023 School Year!
VSA is available to all students in grades K-12 with full course offerings to include special education services/accommodations and collaborative classes.
Students interested in attending VSA must apply and be accepted into the program. If accepted, those students will remain enrolled at their zoned school and can participate in all school-sponsored sports, clubs, and activities.
The application deadline is Friday, April 29, 2022.

How have you survived this school year? The Commodore yearbook staff would like to include your thoughts in the 2022 yearbook entitled the Maury Commodore School Survival Guide. FEV TUTORING
Norfolk Public Schools will provide free, school-sponsored, one-to-one online tutoring and homework help through FEV Tutor.
NPS’ students can receive tutoring in core subjects – math, science, social studies, and English language arts. Students can schedule tutoring each week or access a live tutor around the clock for last-minute homework help and coursework support.
Since this is a virtual service, tutoring can be accessed at any time, anywhere with a computer/device, Internet connection, username, and password. Tutoring services integrate with NPS systems already in use such as Canvas and Clever. FEV's Support Team is ready to answer any questions and work to create a personalized tutoring experience that best suits each student.

Next Step To Success is a new positive youth development program exclusively for Norfolk youth ages 13-15.
They provide RT transportation (from school to our site and then to each student's home) and a catered dinner every night, Monday through Friday. They also offer homework assistance, tutoring and a myriad of enrichment activities including visual and performing art classes with the following partners:
- -VA Ballet Theater -- modern dance every Tuesday afternoon-- lead by former Alvin Alley dancer and VA Ballet Theater Artistic Director, Lydia Coco
- -Lil Truck of Tools - 3-D mixed media arts every Monday afternoon with Artist Suzi Peterson
- -VA Stage Theater with an actor in residency every Thursday afternoon starting in Feb 2022
- -Commune Restaurant - culinary arts -- starting this December under Executive Chef and Executive Director of the Crop Foundation, Kip Poole.
- -Glass Art Studio -- every Friday afterschool at the Glass Art Studio
All of this is free of charge.
The program is located at Blessed Sacrament Church (6400 Newport Avenue in Norfolk). They provide RT transportation for all students from the time school gets out (from the high school to our site and then door to door to their individual homes).
