Parent engagement is a critical part of the success of students with disabilities. In order to assist families with engagement, it is important to provide parents and guardians with information that will help them navigate making educational decisions. This section provides parents/guardians access to guides, handbooks, and other special education relevant resources.
Parent Ombudsman for Special Education
The Ombudsman is independent of the formal dispute resolution options of mediation, state complaints, and due process hearings and serves a key function of reporting to leadership at the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) regarding the issues experienced by parties served.
Parents/Guardians always maintain the right to access additional dispute resolution options at the state and federal levels in accordance with those requirements. More information related to dispute resolution options in Virginia can be found at:
