Newcomer Program at Norview High School
Norfolk Public Schools is proud to offer our Newcomer Program for our English Learners who are newly arrived to US schools and have limited English proficiency. Our Newcomer Program is held at the esteemed Norview High School, Home of the Pilots!
Students eligible to attend the Newcomer Program at Norview High School, are offered the following supports and opportunities:
- 90-minute ESL classes every day or every other day, depending on the student's English proficiency level
- Four full-time ESL teachers who provide academic support during ESL and content-area classes
- Bus transportation provided to and from school
- After-school tutoring and course remediation opportunities
- Encouragement to participate in extracurricular clubs, sports, and school activities
- The opportunity to earn world language credits through ESL courses, which can help students meet the requirements for an Advanced Diploma
