The School Board of the City of Norfolk approved its proposed $772.9 million operating budget for fiscal year 2026 during its business meeting held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
Budget At A Glance
Norfolk Public Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Sharon I. Byrdsong presented a $772.9 million expenditure plan for FY2025-2026 to the City of Norfolk School Board on February 5, 2025. The operating fund of this proposal is $16.8 million less than the current FY2024-2025 operating budget.
Dr. Byrdsong and her administration developed the operating budget proposal on the foundation of five priorities: employee compensation; employee recruitment and retention; right-sizing the school division; safety, security, and building maintenance/repairs; and instructional resources for students and schools.
To help stakeholders understand what is included in the FY2025-2026 operating budget proposal, a brief fact sheet has been developed. Check it out here. In addition, the Superintendent Byrdsong’s PowerPoint presentation is also included here.
