Media

Media Access Policy

All media outlets must apply, be approved by the Office of Athletics and appear on the district-approved media list in order to attend an athletic event and provide coverage. Only one representative per approved media outlet is permitted to attend and report on, or photograph the event.

Application

Media outlets must apply each school year to cover Norfolk Public Schools athletic events. Media interested in obtaining NPS credentials must complete the Norfolk Public Schools Athletics Media Credential Application and submit a completed application to athleticsmediainquiry@nps.k12.va.us

Check-In & Credentials

  • Media outlets must contact the home Athletic Director at least 24 hours prior to the event. Outlets that have not communicated by this deadline will not be permitted to provide coverage. Media outlets with standing approval (ie. WTKR, Wavy, WVEC, Virginia Pilot & NPSNow) do not require advance notice to cover events.

  • Media personnel are required to sign in upon arrival.

  • An official media credential must be picked up at check-in and worn at all times while covering the event.

  • All media credentials must be returned to the home Athletic Director at the conclusion of the contest.

Media Location & Access

  • Media personnel are not permitted to sit or stand on the competition floor, baselines, team benches, or courtside areas during the event.

  • Each venue will designate a specific area for approved and credentialed media personnel.

  • The only media outlets permitted to stand in the approved media area are WTKR, Wavy, WVEC and NPSNow.
