Potential bus route delays a result of VDOT improvement project

Potential bus route delays a result of VDOT improvement project

Starting Monday, March 20, 2017 bus routes that use Curlew Drive may experience delays due to work on electrical lines. This work will be ongoing and last through the end of the school year.

Dominion Virginia Power is performing this utility work in support of the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvements Project. It involves the replacement of four power line structures to further elevate a transmission line along Curlew Drive.

This work will include flagging operations and at times require the complete closure of Curlew Drive between Kidd Boulevard and Newtown Road, requiring detours for buses that normally take that route. The first of these closures expected to impact bus routes are scheduled for March 31 and April 6-7. More of these closures are planned for part of May and into June.

Please note that this schedule is tentative and subject to change as work progresses. The public will see additional impacts to traffic, as crews will be working seven days a week, including some weekends, potentially through the summer.

NPS will use the alert system, website and social media to provide regular updates on possible route delays as this work progresses. You may check for the latest updates on this work and upcoming road closures at VDOT’s I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvements Project website, There, you may also learn about the larger interchange project and sign up to have progress updates and travel alerts sent to your inbox.
