arrow  ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER PROGRAMS

The elementary/middle school summer programs will provide eligible elementary, middle, and with intensive instruction in communication skills, mathematics, history/social science, and science for five weeks.

The Elementary Summer Program is designed for students in Kindergarten – Grade 5. Bus transportation will be provided for Norfolk residents. Contact your child’s school for more information.

The Middle School Summer Program is designed for students in grades 6–8 who have failed no more than two academic subjects and current sixth, seventh, and eighth graders failing any SOL test. Bus transportation will be provided for Norfolk residents. Contact your child’s school for more information.

Location: All middle schools

Dates:             Monday, June 23 - Thursday, July 24, 2008

arrow  HIGH SCHOOL – SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM – GRADES 9–12

The High School Summer School Program is designed for students desirous of taking a course for the first time or for students retaking failed semester courses. Each semester requires seventy (70) hours of classroom instruction. Students may earn one-half (.50) credit for each semester of course passed.

Location:     Lake Taylor High School
Dates:         
Session I:       Monday, June 23, 2008 - Friday, July 11, 2008

Session II:      Monday, July 14, 2008 - Thursday, July 31, 2008
                       (Monday-Friday; 7:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.) -
- (No classes on Friday, July 4)

Students can register at their home high school beginning Tues., May 1 through Fri., June 13, 7:45 a.m. - 12:00 noon. Special education students who desire to attend the high school summer program will follow the same schedule and procedures as regular education students.  Rising ninth graders who want to take a course for the first time can register at their zoned high school and MUST bring a letter of recommendation signed by the middle school principal and guidance counselor. 

Private, parochial, and out-of-city students will register at Lake Taylor High School on Mon., June 16, 2008, 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., PENDING AVAILABLE SEATS. NO PERSONAL CHECKS ACCEPTED on this day – tuition fees must be paid by cash, money order, or cashier’s check made payable to Norfolk Public Schools. Bus transportation will be provided for Norfolk residents. Check with your school’s guidance office for more detailed information.
