Transportation

Transportation is provided to all elementary students who live approximately 1 mile or more from their assigned schools and to all middle and high school students who live approximately 1.5 miles or more from their assigned schools. Students are expected to be standing at the bus stop five minutes before the scheduled departure. Should a bus be late for some reason, students are expected to remain at the bus stop until the bus comes ore notification is given.

A school bus stop is generally placed on the right-of-way of a public street. The public right-of-way generally extends to the outer edges of the sidewalks. If there are no sidewalks, generally the right-of-way extends four or five feet from the roadway. Students are expected to stand on the public right-of-way and away from private property. This will help avoid confrontation with property owners. The principal of the school is responsible for enforcing disciplinary actions against students with behavioral problems at the bus stops.

The conduct expected of students aboard buses is outlined in Safety Rules for Students Riding School Buses. This pamphlet is distributed to all riders at the beginning of each school years. Students who violate these safety rules will be subject to disciplinary action, including temporary or permanent exclusion from the bus and/or school. School bus drivers report students who will not heed their warning regarding behavior. The principal will then carry out disciplinary action up to and including removal from the bus. When a student is removed from the bus, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to provide transportation to and from school.

Parents/guardians of students eligible for transportation will receive a postcard in mid-August with specific information on their child's bus number, bus stop location and pickup time.
