Code of Student Conduct - A Message from the Superintendent
Student Pamphlet
A Summarized Version of Students’ Responsibilities, Expectations, and Discipline
Dear Students:
As members of the Norfolk Public Schools community, it is important that you know your rights and responsibilities and the rules, regulations and disciplinary procedures that have been approved by the School Board of the City of Norfolk. The Board policies ensure the fair and equitable treatment for all members of our diverse school district population. They emphasize collaborative problem solving and offer opportunities for students and adults to develop skills to better manage anger and conflict. These skills enhance all of our lives and the life of the community.
One of our primary obligations as a school district is to provide each of you with the very best education possible. That must be done in a safe, secure and cooperative environment. Everyone must show respect for each other and abide by the established rules, regulations and procedures. I expect that you will do your part to ensure that you and your classmates receive the education that you need and deserve.
You are responsible for knowing the rules and regulations. Also, you are responsible for knowing the consequences of inappropriate behavior. Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated, and Norfolk Public Schools will not hesitate to fully enforce its rules and regulations and to hold students accountable for inappropriate behavior. When laws are violated, police and court officials will be notified. Further, anyone who brings a weapon or a "look-alike"weapon to school will be automatically suspended and may be recommended for expulsion.
This pamphlet is provided to you in summary form, and I urge you to immediately become familiar with this information.
Best wishes for a great school year.
Sincerely,
Dr. Stephen C. Jones
Superintendent of Schools
