Joint Meeting with City Council
March 4, 2008

Half Moone Cruise Terminal

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Fraim at 12:30 p.m. in the Virginia Room of the Half Moone Cruise Terminal.  City Council members present were Vice Mayor Anthony Burfoot, Daun Hester, Paul Riddick, Dr. Theresa Whibley, Don Williams, Barclay Winn, and Randy Wright.  Other city personnel in attendance were City Manager Regina Williams, Clerk Breck Daughtery, City Attorney Bernard Pishko, and Charles Hartig.

School Board members in attendance were Chair Barry Bishop, Billy Cook, Jim Driggers, Dr. Linda McCluney, Dr. Steve Tonelson, Dr. Lillian Wright, Superintendent Stephen Jones, Clerk Vincent Rhodes, and Deputy Clerk Sandie Stocks.  Chief Officers Melinda Boone, Mike Spencer, Fred Schmitt, Pat Sullivan, Mike Spencer, and Yvonne Young attended.

Mayor Fraim welcomed the School Board and Mr. Bishop and Dr. Jones City Council members for the opportunity to talk with them about Norfolk Public Schools.   Mayor Fraim announced plans by the City Council in 2009 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of segregation in Norfolk Schools. 

The meeting moved to the agenda at 1:45 p.m.

Discussion of School Security (Gangs and Bullies and Management Plan for Threats of Student Rampage, Hurricanes or other Disasters) was deferred due to lack of time.

The meeting adjourned at 4:20 p.m.
