Minutes of the Monthly School Board Meeting
December 5, 2007

School Board Capital Improvements Public Hearing

Mr. Bishop convened the public hearing on capital improvements in the auditorium of Sewells Point Elementary School at 6:30 p.m.  Present were:  Chair Bishop, Vice Chair Rhodes, Mr. Cook, Dr. McCluney, Dr. Tonelson, and Dr. Wright as well as Superintendent Jones, Chief of Staff Young, Chief of Operations Spencer, Chief Financial Officer Schmitt, Clerk Rhodes, and Deputy Clerk Stocks.   Mr. Driggers was absent due to travel required for his job. 

Mr. Bishop led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Dr. Jones provided introductory remarks and Mr. Spencer gave a brief overview of the capital improvement budget.

The following persons addressed the board:

  1.  Phyllis Rogers (Crossroads Elementary School needs a new facility because the building is over 60 years.)
  2. Brian Smith (Asked that Ingleside Elementary School be looked at as a site for the city to build a recreation center.)
  3. Sharon Caskey (is a teacher at Crossroads and lives in Norfolk—wants to see Crossroads replaced—heating systems broken, windows old, air moves through the building.  Wants the city to prioritize funding for Crossroads.)
  4. Vickie Ward (Crossroads needs to be a priority for replacement)

The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
