Norfolk Public Schools will use a combination of "banked" instructional hours - additional hours built into the regular school calendar beyond the state-required 990 hours - and an extension of two early release days to make up for instructional hours lost March 3 & 4 due to snow accumulation. June 12 & 13, which were previously scheduled as early release days, will become full instructional days. Exams for secondary students will still take place on those dates during the full instructional days.
"Norfolk Public Schools builds additional instructional hours into the school calendar each year to remain proactive in the event of inclement weather conditions that cause an unusual number of weather-related school closures," said Dr. L'Tanya Simmons, Deputy Superintendent for Operations and Governmental Affairs. "We are pleased that despite the weather circumstances this winter, we have been able to avoid a negative impact on professional learning days for staff and spring break for both our families and staff, while still providing the required number of instructional hours for our students."
